Turkistan Foreign Volunteer Shield 2nd Pattern

This is a good example of the second pattern angular Turkistan bevo shield with red and blue horizontal stripes bordered in black with a black field on top. The centre of the shield has a white bow and arrow with a blue inscription "Turkistan" on the top. The shield has been cut directly off the tunic sleeve and still retains part of the field-grey material. The Turkistan Legion was formed in the spring of 1942 as part of the German 162nd Infantry Division, which was also known as the Turkoman Division. It saw extensive action in Yugoslavia and Italy.
