U.S. Marine Corps Dress Blues
This is a excellant example of a U.S. Marine Corps class A uniform better known as Dress Blues. The uniform consists of Tunic and trousers. The tunic has the gold gilted Marine Corps buttons and collar insignia. The rank chevrons are that of a Sergeant 4th Grade. The unit badge belongs to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. The 1st Aircraft Wing, was formed in 1941 at Guantico ( Virginia ). The wing left for San Diego in December, in order to defend the West Coast. In March 1942, it was re-organised in five groups and took part in the battle of Guadalcanal, then took part in the Solomans. In 1943 it saw action in New Georgia and Bougainville before leaving in 1944 for the Philippines. From October 1945, the wing was based on Chinese airfields of Tsingtao, Peiping and Tienstin until May 1947, where it moved to Guam.
