Turkistan Sleeve Insignia 1st Pattern
This is a very good example of uncut bevo sleeve insignia which was worn by members of the Turkistan Legion, which was formed in the spring of 1942 as part of the German 162nd Infantry Division also known as the "Turkoman Division". It saw extensive action in Yugoslavia and Italy. This example is of the 1st pattern insignia, there where three patterns. The sleeve shield depicts a mosque with a centre couploa in white and blue with two side spirals and a large gate. At the bottom it has the inscription "TURKISTAN" and the inscription above the mosque "BIZ ALLA BILEN" is Turkish for "We Believe in God". 1st pattern insignia was the most common worn by members of the Turkoman Division.
