French Legion Sleeve Shield
This is a un-cut bevo 2nd pattern sleeve shield worn by members of the French legion. The French Legion " Legion des Volontaires Francais ( L.V.F.) was formed in July 1941. and was officially designated as reinforced Infantry Regiment 638. Following training in Poland, the legion was posted in Russia. The legion distinguished themselves in front-line battles and in anti-partisan operations. The legion repeatedly suffered heavy casualties, but was kept at full strength. On 1st September 1944 the legion was transferred to the control of the Waffen-SS and was amalgmated with the French SS Assault Brigade to the form Waffen-SS Grenadier Brigade Charlemagne
