British Army Rum Jar
This is a British army rum jar with the initials "S.R.D." marked on the front, which stands for "Supply Reserve Depot". However soldiers tended to change the meaning of the initials to "Seldom Reaches Destination, Service Rum Diluted and Soon Runs Dry." Soldiers on active service where issued 2.5 fluid ounces by the discretion of the commanding or medical officer. It would also be issued during or just after dawn stand to. This example is in excellent condition dated 1945 and marked on the base with the makers stamp
