U.S. SBR Gas Mask & Haversack

This is a U.S. gas mask, which dates from mid 1918 and is based on the British Small Box Respirator or SBR for short. The Americans called their gas mask the American corrected English box respirator and is very similar in design to the British pattern with very slight differences. The U.S. gas masks came with a service/instruction card, which is included in the this example. The haversack had lift-dot fasteners instead of the brass snap fasteners. The gas mask is in good condition considering its age and the materials its made from. However it does have a hole at the end of the hose connecting the mask to the filter.
