British MKIII Helmet

The MKIII helmet was first developed by the medical research council in 1941 on behalf of the British army. The MKIII was first worn in combat by Canadian and British troops on D-Day. The MKIII was replaced in 1945 by the MKIV which was identical in shape, but with two minor differences. It had a lift-dot fitting which replaced the screw and nut of the liner to allow quick removal of the liner. The chinstrap fitting on the shell was also in a lower position on the MKIV. This example is in very good condition, the liner is size stamped 7.1/4 and is maker marked "AG &Co" for A.Garstin & Co.LTD.
