U.S. M1 Distinctive Helmet Liner

Helmet liners where often worn without the steel helmets and became distinctive uniform items for example the 22nd Replacement battalion at Cam Ranh Bay wore white helmet liners with decals, very similar to the example shown. I believe this liner is one of the distinctive uniform items worn by a replacement battalion. The liner is World War 2 vintage maker marked with the letter "F" within a shield identifying the manufacturer as Firestone Tire & Rubber Company. It has been re-strapped for Vietnam. The leather sweatband is dated 1964.
