British Made U.S. Brodie Helmet 80th Infantry Division

This is a British made MK1 Brodie which has a makers stamp "D" which identifies the maker as James Dixon & Sons LTD, Sheffield. The shell is also stamped what looks to be 'E38" not sure what it signifies could be a U.S. addition stamping.. The shell is in very good condition with the insignia of the 80th Infantry division. The liner is present, but not fixed and the leather chinstrap is missing. When the U.S. Army entered the war and arrived in France ,it was initially supplied with British MK1 and French M15 Adrian helmets, until the U.S. started to manufacture they own Brodie helmets which was designated the M1917. U.S. brodies differ from British helmets by having a spot rivert to the chinstrap bale where British examples have a split pin rivert.
