British Army MKIII Helmet

The MKIII helmet was first developed by the medical research council in 1941 on behalf of the British army. The MKIII was first worn in combat by British and Canadian troops on Operation Overlord 6th June 1944 ( D-Day ). The helmet is commonly referred to as the turtle shell due to its resemblance to the animal. This example is in extremely nice condition and comes with the rare reddish brown MKII liner which is maker marked "BMB" for Briggs Motor Bodies, who produced liners from 1939 to 1945. The liner is dated 1942 and size stamped 7. It also has the first pattern two piece chinstrap, later examples are single piece chinstraps.
