U.S. Service Jacket

This is in fact a M1946 pattern service jacket which is very similar to the M1944 service jacket, which was originally first made in the United Kingdom for the U.S. army. It was designed to be an alternative jacket to the service tunic and was chosen by General Eisenhower in April 1944 subsequently became known as the Ike jacket. This example retains its contract label which gives the pattern date 24th May 1946 and the manufacturing date 29th May 1947. The makers name 'Jules Segal & Co" and the size 34 small.
