The G.S. beret was first introduced in September 1943 as a wartime measure to replace the G.S. side cap. When the G.S. beret was first introduced it was dubbed "Cap Ridiculous" as it was not a popular item amongst the troops. However it was for universal wear and the troops got used to it. This example was maker marked "J.COLLECT LTD" and dated 1945. It is also size stamped 6.7/8. The beret has some very minor moth nips.
