The M1944 carbine originally started life as a M1938 carbine the only difference between the two models is the addition of a folding cruciform bayonet on the M1944. In fact a large number of M1938 carbines where upgrade to the M1944, which is the case with this example as its dated 1942. The carbines where originally designed to be issued to drivers, artillery and mount troops. However they where issued to all branches depending what weapons where available to units needs.
