U.S. MACV/SOG Badge

This is a theatre hand made badge worn by members of the MACV/SOG ( Military Assistance Command Vietnam-Studies and Observation Group ). The unit was established on 24th January 1964 and was multi-service specialising in special operations such as convert and unconventional warfare during the Vietnam War. There are number of different versions of the MACV/SOG badge as the majority of the badges where all handmade and varied from different unit to unit with the MACV branch. This example has the letters "FOB" for Forward Observation Base.
