U.S. M1942 Service Tunic

M1942 service which differs to the M1940 service tunic by no longer have rear pleats at the back of the tunic. This example has the formation sleeve insignia of the flying tigers, which became the China Task Force in July 1942. The tunic has the rank of Master Sergeant, the Meritorious service unit badge on the left sleeve with with three service stripes indicating 9 years service with two overseas service stripes indicating of 12 months overseas service. The breast of the tunic has the spread winged eagle which was awarded for an honourably discharge from military service and was sometimes called the ruptured duck. The tunic retains its contract label which gives the maker name "Spirn Hirschenfang & Schwadel Inc, the size 40L and the pattern date 7th February 1942 and the actual manufacturing date 27th February 1942.
