U.S. Serge Short Service Jacket
This is in fact an Australian made serge jacket similar to the British Battle Dress. The Australian made serge jacket is associated to the Marine Corps. However other branches of the U.S. forces stationed in Australia worn the Australian made jackets. This example has the sleeve insignia of the Army Air Fore, one three year service strip and two oversea strips indicating 12 months overseas service. The trade bade on the right lower sleeve is a Army Air Force engineer specialist. The jack is dated 1944 and size marked 36L. The rank is of a Staff Sergeant and the left breast has the Winged Spread eagle for honourably discharge and was sometimes called the 'Ruptured Duck.
