U.S. M1944 Marine Corps Utility Jacket

The M1944 utility uniform was officially approved to replace the M1941 utility uniform in March 1944. However however did not really issued to the Iwo Jima campaign 19th February to 26th March 1945. This example is the early version which has the anti-gas flap. Later examples do not have the gas-flap. It has suffered with some staining especially to the sleeves and the upper back and collar. The right shoulder has, what looks to be scorch and burn marks, with two holes/tares. The unique feature of the M1944 utility jacket is the two large chest pockets which allowed for maps or grenades to be carried. This example retains the original owners name stencilled above the left breast external pocket.
