U.S. M1 Helmet & Marine Corps Camouflage Cover

This is a swivel bale front seamed with a manganese rim which was introduced in October 1944. In November 1944 a further modification was introduced on the M1 Helmet with the rim seam repositioned to the rear. Which gives the actual production date of this example as October 1944. The stainless steel rim was replaced because it was found the paint to not adhere to a stainless steel rim and caused reflection from the sun and other light sources. The helmet is in untouched condition with traces of the original finish still visible and retaining it's original webbing chinstrap. The inside of the helmet has a clear heat number. The liner is in excellent condition and is stamped with the letter "W" within a oval which identifies the maker as Westinghouse Electric Company. The helmet comes with the 1st pattern Marine Corps issue reversible camouflaged helmet cover in good condition with the stencilled Marine Corps globe and anchor which was applied after 1945. The majority of existing WW2 Marine Corps camouflaged helmet covers tend to be found with the post-war applied globe and anchor symbol.
