U.S. Variable Density Goggles

Variable density goggles which would have been issued to aircrew gunners. The variable density goggles allowed the wearer to track targets close to or in front of the sun. The goggles where also worn by observers monitoring the Atomic bomb tests during and after the war. The goggles operated by turning the central knob counter-clockwise which darkened the lenses giving different degrees of density from clear to red. The goggles where also equipped with a fold down red plastic visor used to reduce the glare from strong sunlight.
