The CAR-15 ( Colt Automatic Rifle ) is a family of the M16 based firearms marketed by Colt in the 1960's and 1970's. The CAR-15 is also known as the Colt Commando or the XM177. The development for the CAR-15 started in 1964 and the first models actually appearing in mid 1965 for evaluation. By 1966 it started to be issued to Special forces serving in Vietnam. This example is a Japanese made replica produced by Model Gun Corporation which ceaed trading in 1994. This example is actually dated December 1977, it cocks and dry fires, chambers and eject dummy 5.56mm rounds. The telescopic butt is fixed to the short position and does not extend.
