Canadian South Saskatchewan Regiment Cap Badge

The South Saskatchewan regiment was formed in 1936 by the amalgamation of the Weyburn and the Saskatchewn border regiments. During WW2 the regiment participated in many Canadian battles and operations as part of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division including the Dieppe raid. During the Dieppe raid they undertook one of the more unusual missions of the war. The regiment provided a bodyguard for the RAF radar epect, Flight Sergeant Jack Nissenthall who volunteered to try and penetrate a German radar station on the cliff above Green Beach. Because Nissenthall know about British and U.S. radar technology he was provided with Saskatchewan regiment sharpshooters. Who had orders to protect him and if necessary to kill him in the event of possible capture. Nissenthall's mission was a success which enabled vital information on the state of development on German radar technology to be discovered. The regiment ended the war with the liberation of the Westerbrook transit cap on 12th April 1945. This example of the South Saskatchewan cap badge is in excellent condition.
