British Enfield 3 Band Percussion Rifle
This is an 1862 dated Enfield 3 band percussion rifle which is "Tower" marked. Which means the rifle was inspected by the Board of Ordnance at the Tower of London for a private contractor or commercial export. The rifle is also marked with the Queen 's crown with the letters "VR" ( Victoria Regina ). The Enfield 1853 rifle was used by the British army from 1853 to 1867. It was also the second most used rifle during the American Civil War only surpassed by the Springfield model 1861 rifle. This example is in reasonable condition and is sold under section 58 of the firearms act and is an obsolete calibre. U.K. Sales Only
