U.S. M1956 2nd Pattern Field Pack. ( M1961 Field Pack )

This is a 2nd pattern M1956 field pack which is more commonly referred to as the "butt pack" due to its position when worn. The 2nd pattern field pack is also known as the M1961 field pack by collectors due to its introduction date.The 2nd pattern differs from the 1st pattern by having a waterproof neck seal, where the 1st pattern has fold-over flap side extensions which where considered less effective in keeping personal items dry. The 2nd pattern field pack is also slightly larger. This example is DSA marked and dated 1961 ( 61E ).
