This is a very good example of British 1940 pattern Battledress trousers, which are approximately a 32" waist. The inside leg is 27", however they have been turned up by 5 inches. Beret was first introduced, it was dubbed "Cap Ridiculous", as it was not a popular item. However it was for universal wear and the troops got used to it.
