German M40 Camouflage Helmet
This is an M40 helmet which retains traces of its camouflage finish which may possibly for Italy, North Africa or the mediterranean. The inside of the shell has a ruff finish which has obscured the shell's maker, size and batch number. The liner has two names, one of which has been crossed out. This example comes with a 1942 dated FE41 filter which has the makers code "gnh" for Auer-Gesellschaft AG. This is an extremely nice example of an early M1930 gas mask which has a simple valve nose piece. However this was changed during the late 1930's because the valve would quickly soiled and the soldiers tended to hit their teeth when falling to the ground.
