German Denazified Wound Badge

This is a denazified wound badge which has had the swastika removed from the helmet. However the swastika is still visible on the reverse of the award. I suspect the medal was denazified when the Bunderswehr was established in 1955. The majority of senior NCO's and officers where former members of the Wehrmacht and where allowed to wear their wartime decorations as long as the Swastika was removed. In fact the Bundeswehr had all the wartime medals re-made without the swastika for wartime veterans. This example was originally a black award however the black has rubbered off with traces remaining.
