This is a 1943 dated M1 ammunition bag, which is maker marked 'Avery". The M1 ammunition bag was designed to accommodate 11 rifle grenades or 28 hand grenades. It was also used to carry stick magazines for the Thompson and M3 submachine guns. This example has what looks to be some dark brown paint to its base and has some slight fraying.  read more
