This is a very nice example of a 1st pattern skeleton assault jerkin, which was a simplified version of the battle jerkin. It was designed for frontline troops to carrier various types of ammunition including 2 inch mortar shells, there was also a provision on the left side for the No4 bayonet to be attached.
